Sage Vaughn

Misfit (salvation) 2010 oil, acrylic, vellum on canvas 60 x 48 in.

Overpass (swarm) 2008 oil, acrylic, ink, vellum on linen 96 x96 in.

Sage Vaughn is a Los Angeles based artist known for his paintings of wild life combined with urban settings. I like the way he combines loose renderings of organic creatures with detailed illustrations of city life. His color choice and use of dripping techniques are very cool and make his work unique.  His pieces are playful, yet make a statement about the relationship between urban and natural environments.

Ed Ruscha

Ed Ruscha was raised in Oklahoma, he moved to Los Angeles in 1956 where he attended Chouinard Art Institute. Rushca uses paint, photography, and drawing to create his work. He currently works and lives in Los Angeles. Rushca is one of the many artists participating in Pacific Standard Time, an event where Los Angeles artist are celebrated. I enjoy Rushca's combination of text with backgrounds consisting of value scales.
